Position Summary
The KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI) is a large-scale coral reef restoration program in the Red Sea in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), begun in 2021 and funded by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a world-class graduate research university in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea north of Jeddah, in partnership with NEOM, a region in northwest Saudi Arabia that is being sustainably developed from the ground up with the world’s most advanced technologies to redefine how people live, work, and play.
KAUST seeks multiple Reefscape Field Operations Technician (Level 1), who will report to a Reefscape Field Operations Specialist. Their primary goal is to conduct a variety of diver related tasks daily in support of operational priorities and objectives.
The position will be based at NEOM.
Scope of Work
The Reefscape Field Operations Technician (Level 1) specific responsibilities include:
- Support and prepare daily dive plans in a timely manner.
- Prepare and manage materials & equipment needed for daily dive operations.
- Prepare, execute, manage and report daily dive tasks in the field in accordance with activity requirements.
- Implement and coordinate safe systems of work ensuring best safety practices are followed.
- Promote safe behaviors with peers and be an ambassador for safety.
- Champion key initiatives and take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Report project risks and outcomes to appropriate management channels and escalate issues according to project work plan.
Competencies
- Requires advanced SCUBA diving proficiency (e.g., AAUS, Master Diver, Rescue Diver, Dive Instructor, or similar level of dive training or logged dives).
- Ability/interest in remote working diving for multiple week durations at sea.
- Proven success in a team setting, working with all levels of management.
- Experience with data collection, management and processing including the compilation and delivery of high-quality written reports.
- High standard of organization ability and flexibility to meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills
- Excellent time management skills.
- Experience in coral reef restoration highly desirable.
- Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and share Knowledge.
Qualifications
Diploma and / or higher-level certificate as minimum in a relevant field.
Experience
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in projects and field operations sector.
