About the job:

The Environmental Specialist role supports the management of University’s ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System accreditation.
The role has a focus on external regulatory requirements, in particular researching and interpreting Saudi environmental compliance obligations and best practices, updating KAUST Environment compliance obligation register, and identifying opportunities to further improve environmental performance.

Requirements:
-
•Bachelor degree in Environmental Science or related field.
•At least five (5) years of work experience in HSE management systems, with particular emphasis in conducting inspections and audits. Experience preferably in municipality, universities, or heavy industry.
•Experience applying environmental procedures in highly regulated organization is preferred.
•Saudi Arabian regulatory experience, either as regulator or regulated organization
•Proficiency in reading and interpretation Saudi laws and regulations
•Understanding of ISO14001 management system
•Experience in conducting inspections of operational facilities
•Excellent verbal and written skills (Arabic and English)
•Self –motivated
•Able to communicate and work effectively in a culturally diverse work environment.

Functional Duties:
-
•Ensure operational and construction compliance with environmental procedures, and KAUST ISO14001:2015 requirements,
•Communicate and ensure University’s Environmental Stewardship Policy spirit and commitment are met
•Maintain an up-to-date Arabic and English translation of Saudi environmental compliance obligations, regularly updating the compliance obligation register
•Identify Saudi environmental compliance obligation gaps and opportunities to further improve environmental compliance and environmental best practice
•Participate in environmental reviews of new construction or upgrade projects, ensuring environmental impacts are identified and appropriate mitigation measures adopted by projects
•Lead all aspects of uptake and communication of environmental - HSE information Management System (Salute) to HSE customers
•Conduct environmental review of Land Use Permits applications
•Participate in environmental risk assessment
•Participate in delivery of environmental training programs
•Participate in community environmental outreach activities, as well with engaging students and researchers
•Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of his/her position
