About the Job:

The PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER primary role is to be a driving force to support existing and future research activities and facilities by providing health, safety and environmental assessments and assists with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of safety and environmental measures and initiatives to ensure compliance with local department and international EH&S requirements and expectations.

Minimum Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor degree in in chemical or safety engineering, or in a related field
- Certified HazOp chair from a recognized institution is a plus.
- seven years of experience in EH&S, including subspecialty in Process Safety Management (OSHA 1910.119) and/or training as
a professional EH&S advisor from a recognized and accredited entity.
- Experienced in Research laboratories operations and safety management.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified International Hygienist (CIH), Charter Member of IOSH, or equivalent international certificates.
- Working knowledge of safety and process standards including but not limited to NFPA, ASME, ANSI, and OSHA.
Job Responsibilities:
-Provide advice and consultation to department staff to assist them in maintaining a safe working environment in compliance with international,
and local environmental/safety regulations, standards and practices.
-Plan, direct and perform EH&S studies and services.
-Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace and develop controls for identified hazards.
-Measure and evaluates the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect
improved opportunities to eliminate work place incidents and injuries.
-Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
- Direct or assist in the development of specialized education and training materials.
-Assist management with monitoring adherence to department safety and environmental program by employees and contractors.
-Conduct a survey, analyze and develop a program for enhancing safety culture.
-Implement Inherently Safer Design, Process Safeguarding and Human Factor Engineering in Research facilities and laboratories.
-Select and design of fire protection equipment, engineering design calculations for equipment used in Research facilities and laboratories.
-Develop Risk Management plans, Escape, Evacuation and Rescue scenarios.
-Conduct safety studies & reviews (i.e., HAZOP, HAZID, What-If, Bow-Tie, SIL, ALARP and other)
